What is Interventional
Radiology?
Interventional Radiology (IR) applies medical imaging to assist doctors to diganose and treat issues related to blood and lymph vessels within the body.
Prostate Artery Embolization
Prostate Artery Embolization is one way to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlargement of the prostate, a common condition among men over 45 years of age.
How it Works
For this procedure, an interventional radiologist inserts a hollow wire into the artery in the leg and maneuvers it to the arteries that only supply the prostate. The radiologist injects tiny microspheres to slow or stop blood flow to the prostate, which can cause it to shrink or soften.
