Interventional oncology is minimally invasive therapy for patients with liver, colorectal, lung, bone/soft tissue, kidney, and metastatic cancers.
Microwave Ablation
Microwave ablation (MWA) is a minimally-invasive treatment for cancer that uses ultrasound, CT or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to guide placement of a needle-like probe into a tumor and utilizes microwaves to heat and destroy the tumor.
How it Works
Doctors use MWA for the same indications as RFA, typically performing the procedure on an outpatient basis or with general anesthesia and short stay in the hospital to recover. MWA offers low risk and can treat multiple tumors simultaneously. Additionally, doctors can repeat the procedure if new cancer appears.
